1-To determine the exact landscape needs and desires of the homeowners.

2- To determine the capabilities of the land (site) to fulfill those needs and desires.

3- To develop the outdoor living areas of the landscape in a manner similar to the way indoor living areas are developed.

4-To design the landscape in such a way that maintenance practices do not exceed the homeowner desire and what he is willing to do.

5-To keep costs within the budget of the homeowner.

The needs and desires of the homeowner are best determined by a direct conversation between the designer and the client this promotes trust and confidence between the two parties. This helps the designer to recognize the client’s actual desires much more easily and allows for a personalized approach to landscaping.
